There is a thread on Huskermat discussing officials, authored by the Garfield's. Interesting ideas, but don't argue with ignorance
Maybe we ought to 'bash' coaches |

Should any one group be allowed to operate without a system in place to monitor them and report abuses? Some of the police forces/court systems in foreign countries come to mind. Not saying I support the Huskermat post 100% but isn't there just alittle bit of validity to their argument? |

I may differ with Make the Call, as the system does have a check and balance in place. Why do coaches not get renewed? Why do officials not get rehired? The good officials don't have enough time to take all the contract offers.
Coaches on Huskermat have had a 'bad' experience with an official, and that official and all others are then on a bad list.
One coach stated that he had been ejected from a football game, but did nothing. Sounds like my grandson.
What are your thoughts?
Could put this on matrants, but lets leave it here--all to see.
It can lead to a form of self evaluation--how to get better and make our organization better. |

Pretty interesting conversation. My thoughts are (besides few and far between) if a ref does a horrible job, the school shouldn't hire him again. As far as having a evaluation system, refs can be told time after time how to improve, but if they don't want to, that's their choice, they can continue to get registered, but it's up to the schools to not hire bad officials.
I feel that our organization has done a great job of improving officials; by talking about situations/rules/calls and getting consistency on our calls and more importantly opening dialog between members of our organization about situations/rules/positioning so we can all check and help improve each other. At almost every tournament we sit down and discuss a couple situations/rules and talk about things we do well and ways each of us can improve.
I think it would be a great idea to have a wrestling officials organization combined with the NSWCA. Hopefully that would start an open dialog between coaches and officials about situations and rules and that would help officials improve and coaches understand why officials call things the way they do. |

Nick has a great point.
Could we have a series of meetings in November that would include area coaches, the purpose to be to discuss rules and why/when certain things are called the way they are. Maybe we could eliminate some of the misconceptions that are common---we could probably learn a bunch also.
Our executive committee (officers/reps/past pres, etc) could arrange this. Needs to be done after new rules have been intreperted by NSAA and NFHS and could be held at Kearney, North Platte, Bridgeport, Chadron, for example.
We could charge $20 to the coaches who attend (dues?)
What do you think? |

| I had actually started this process when I was pres (I had the e-mail address of every head coach in the state from Albion west) and was corresponding with all of them every month trying to get input for our meetings. They were invited each month to attend and we even got a few to attend some of the meetings. |
